Sardegna DistrICT's Technology Labs

Sardegna DistrICT's Technology Labs
Nine technology labs have been set up in the district: they are open places for collaboration between companies and the research and innovation system.

The labs expand the district's technology set and know-how for the benefit of all district players and promote applied research, the transfer of research results to industry, and the launch of new business initiatives.

The labs perform three types of activity:

1. Preliminary experimental activities and instrument setup.
They include proof of concept, i.e. the testing or realisation of methods or ideas to demonstrate or verify their feasibility and the setting of instruments, including preparation and configuration of examples of use. These activities, preparatory to cluster and innovation projects, will be implemented on the basis of proposals by the enterprises or on the initiative of each Lab's Management Team. The cost of each activity will be borne by Sardegna Ricerche, the implementing entity of Measure 3.13 of the ROP

2. Projects for groups of enterprises (cluster projects).
Cluster projects are conducted to test innovative solutions, construct prototypes, develop precompetitive products etc. through the participation of groups of enterprises. The results and knowledge generated by the projects are made available to the enterprises on a non-discriminatory basis. These projects have a maximum duration of six months and may be developed on the initiative either of the labs or of the enterprises. The cost of each project will be borne by Sardegna Ricerche, the implementing entity of Measure 3.13 of the ROP; however, participating enterprises are required to contribute to project success by ensuring their staff's participation in the planned activities

3. Innovation projects.
Small-scale innovation and technology transfer projects, which may also be a follow-up to cluster projects. Innovation projects are conducted by individual companies, which can obtain exclusive ownership of results, and are accordingly required to co-finance the project. The maximum budget for each project is 50,000 euro. Public co-funding cannot exceed 50% of eligible costs, and project duration cannot exceed six months.
The lab makes available to the enterprise its own plant, machinery and equipment for project activities, and provides technical and scientific support. The enterprise must perform its own share of activity, bearing all related costs, and must purchase raw and auxiliary materials, special items etc. Sardegna Ricerche coordinates and monitors the project
