Profile
The Institute of Translational Pharmacology of the National Research Council (NRC) is organised into several local branches, which carry out research in the fields of the human genome, analytical biochemistry, epidemiology, bioinformatics and pharmacology.

The Cagliari branch was established officially in 2006 and is staffed by a multidisciplinary team of researchers engaged in drug research and pre-clinical development.

Research focuses mainly on antipsychotic drugs and analgesics, but over time it has also extended to other areas of treatment and to the development of innovative drugs, including the creation of complex screening platforms.

Currently, the Cagliari branch has fifteen researchers operating in four state-of-the-art laboratories. This branch also runs, on behalf of the Technology Park of Sardinia, the rodent holding facility and the NMR analysis lab.

Competencies and technologies
The researchers of the Cagliari branch of the Institute of Translational Pharmacology are experts in the fields of molecular and cell biology, neuro-anatomy and in vitro and in vivo pharmacology. They are also supported by pharmaceutical preparation and analytical chemistry laboratories.

The broad spectrum of competencies and the range of technologies available to researchers enable them to handle directly many of the preclinical trial phases required for drug development and identification of action pathways.
