Conference on the Mediterranean Cooperation Programme in Rome

Island of Santorini
09.07.2012
The Mid-term Conference of the ENPI CBC Mediterranean Sea Basin Programme 2007-2013 will be held in Rome on 17 and 18 July 2012, at the "Auditorium della Tecnica" of Confindustria.

The "Mediterranean Sea Basin" Programme, coordinated by the Region of Sardinia as Joint Managing Authority, falls under the Cross-border Cooperation component (CBC) of the new European Neighbourhood and Partnership Instrument 2007-2013 (ENPI) and is one of the main cooperation initiatives between Mediterranean territories.

The general objective of the programme, which covers 14 countries, is to contribute to promoting the sustainable and harmonious cooperation process at the Mediterranean Basin level by dealing with the common challenges and enhancing its endogenous potential. The programme has four priorities: promotion of socio-economic development and enhancement of territories; promotion of environmental sustainability at the basin level; promotion of better conditions and modalities for ensuring the mobility of persons, goods and capitals and, lastly, promotion of cultural dialogue and local governance.

The conference will be an opportunity to take stock of progress made and results achieved to date. It will also serve as a forum for discussing the 2014-2020 perspectives concerning EU neighbourhood policies. Conference participants will include several ministers from Member States and Mediterranean Partner Countries, senior representatives from the EU institutions and regional authorities from the two shores of the Mediterranean, who will contribute to the discussion.
