Friday 12 and Saturday 13 July the "Santa Gilla" Multipurpose Complex (seat of the Unione Sarda Publishing Group) will play host to SINNOVA 2013, Sardinia's 1st Innovation Expo.
The event, organised by Sardegna Ricerche and by the Sardinia Region's Department for Programming, the Budget, Credit and Land Use Planning has a twofold character: business showcasing and partnering opportunities on the one hand, and conferences and lectures on the other.
Hence SINNOVA is not only a forum for sharing and exchanging experiences addressed to all innovation players in Sardinia, with a focus on businesses, but also an extensive sector fair, featuring a large exhibition area with more than 100 thematic stands.
The Exhibition, open to visitors on both days, will host:
- The businesses operating in Sardinia in the following sectors: ICTs, aerospace, biomedicine and biotechnology, energy and the environment as well as the island's traditional production sectors.
- The Region's main agencies tasked with promoting the various facets of innovation and supporting local businesses, including the local universities and research centres.
The event also includes a matching area set aside for one-on-one meetings between businesses, research centres and institutions, opening to partnership and cooperation agreements.
The two-day programme encompasses a number of initiatives aimed at businesses:
- three rooms will be set aside for business workshops: an opportunity for individual businesses to present their innovative products and for public agencies to describe the services they offer to innovative enterprises
- a fourth meeting room will host training workshops organised by Sardegna Ricerche, where national speakers and experts will explore in depth key themes of practical interest to entrepreneurs.
In conjunction with SINNOVA, the Barcamper van is coming to the island for the second time, the aim being to identify and fund new projects and start-ups in the sectors with the strongest innovation drive in Sardinia. Here are the stops on the Sardinia Innovation Tour:
- 8 July in Olbia, at the Costa Smeralda Airport
- 9 July, in Ottana, in the main Square
- 10 July in Santadi, in Piazza Marconi
- 11 July in Cagliari, in Piazza L'Unione Sarda, fronting the venue that will host the Expo.
The best projects and start-up ideas picked up by the scouting tour will be presented at the TechGarage, the event that for the past several years has gathered together the main venture capital players, slated for the evening of 12 July as part of the Expo.
On Saturday morning the Expo will also host some educational events designed by Sardegna Ricerche to promote science and innovation awareness: one is the prize-giving ceremony for the best videos submitted in the schoolchildren's competition "We are the geniuses - Young people talk about biotechnologies". In the second event, an audience including the local press will watch the reportages produced by the science reporters who attended the first scientific journalism camp organised by Sardegna Ricerche.
The two-day event will be wrapped up on the evening of Saturday 13 July by a closing conference hosted by journalist Riccardo Luna that will present a Sardinia poised between tradition and innovation through the stories of promising start-ups, researchers, groundbreakers, experts and innovative businesses.
