Profile
The Immunogenetics Laboratory of the Institute of Genetic and Biomedical Research is under the scientific direction of Francesco Cucca, associate Professor of Medical Genetics at the Medical School of Sassari University, Department of Biomedical Sciences, and Director of the Institute of Neurogenetics and Neuropharmacology of the NRC.

The lab has for a number of years been carrying out studies on the human genome to identify the risk factors of genetic diseases widespread in Sardinia, in particular autoimmune diseases such as type I diabetes and multiple sclerosis.

Competencies and technologies
The lab's activity includes the genotyping and sequencing of nucleic acid, using state-of-the-art technology and latest generation platforms.
The lab also collaborates with the CRS4 and the Institute of Neurogenetics and Neuropharmacology in the statistical and IT analysis of genotyping and sequencing data.

Products, services and applications
- Publication of papers in specialised scientific journals
- Development of new approaches to assessing autoimmune disease risk
- Understanding of the mechanisms underlying the target diseases
- Identification of new molecular targets for immunotherapy.
