Sardegna Ricerche, established by the Region of Sardinia in 1985 as "Consorzio Ventuno", was renamed in January 2007 to better reflect its new mission: to promote research and technology transfer and the development of a knowledge-based local economy.

Specifically, Sardegna Ricerche:
1. supports innovation of the production system, favouring technology transfer from universities and research centres to industry
2. fosters the set up of innovative enterprises and attracts high-tech companies to Sardinia
3. promotes, manages and develops the Science and Technology Park of Sardinia
4. enhances human capital through advanced training and work placement programmes
5. delivers services to Sardinian SMEs aimed at the introduction of new technologies and products and modernisation of corporate organisation.

Sardegna Ricerche has its operational headquarters at the main centre of the Technology Park in Pula, province of Cagliari. It also has offices in Cagliari (registered office) and in Nuoro, at the premises of AILUN, Association for the Institution of the Free University of Nuoro. The Technology Park also has a centre at Alghero, operated by Porto Conte Ricerche.
