Description
On Tuesday 7 July 2009 at the Auditorium of the main campus of the Technology Park of Sardinia at Pula (CA), a conference entitled "Genetics in the Mediterranean Area" will be held, starting at 09:15 am.
The event will focus on genetic diseases and their distribution in the Mediterranean area. Female researchers from Turkey, France, Tunisia and Sardinia will report on the current situation in these different countries and will explore new forms of collaboration in the fight against diseases such as diabetes and multiple sclerosis.
The conference, organised by Sardegna Ricerche and InToResearch (a start-up set up in 2008 thanks to a scheme for young graduates and based at the Park), will feature reports from women geneticists but also historians and scholars in linguistics, providing a comprehensive overview of the events which have generated genetic affinities among Mediterranean peoples.
The idea of a meeting with an all-women panel of speakers comes from the project "Set-Routes, Women in Science" funded by the European Union and aimed at fostering women's participation in the various branches of scientific research. Under the same project, two science round tables were recently organised at Istanbul (March 2009) and Cagliari (November 2008).
The meeting is open to all comers.
Official language: English.
