CES 2023: 10 Sardinian start-ups fly to Las Vegas

Uno scatto dal CES
05.01.2023
Ten companies, including start-ups and innovative SMEs, will represent Sardinia at the Consumer Electronic Show 2023 (CES), scheduled to take place in Las Vegas, U.S.A., from 5 to 8 January.

The mission is part of the activities that Sardegna Ricerche has been carrying out for several years to promote the island's innovative start-ups and launch them onto the international scene. Similar ventures include the region's participation in the international technology fairs Gitex Future Stars in Dubai, Viva Technology in Paris, and Web Summit in Lisbon.

CES
CES has been the world's most important trade show dedicated to consumer electronics for more than 40 years, giving the stage to leading multinational companies, start-ups and innovative SMEs in the IT sector to preview new solutions that are set to change the global technology landscape. The event is organised by the industry trade association CTA. The last edition, prior to the Covid-19 pandemic, was held in January 2020 and was attended by 171,000 visitors and 2,300 exhibitors.

For Italy, CES 2023, in addition to marking the debut among global innovation players of Innovit, the Italian Culture and Innovation Hub inaugurated last October in San Francisco, also represents an extraordinary opportunity to showcase some of the country’s most ground-breaking companies in technological innovation. There will be 51 start-ups in all gathered inside the Italian pavilion at Eureka Park, managed by ITA (Italian Trade Agency), the Agency for the promotion abroad and internationalisation of Italian companies. During the four days of CES, the pavilion will host several in-depth panels, as well as pitches from all the start-ups. The events of 5 January will open a window on European innovation horizons, with a panel devoted to Horizon Europe programme opportunities for start-ups, preceding the European Innovation Night. In the late afternoon of 6 January, however, a press meeting is scheduled, followed by the Italian Investor Night, an opportunity for Italian companies to network with international investors.

THE START-UPS
The selected Sardinian start-ups and innovative SMEs are: Alert Genius, Athlos, Creecon, Footure Lab, LinkaLab, Radoff, Smart Geo Survey, Sprama Game Labs, WiData, and Xrit.

The 10 Sardinian companies present innovative technologies in areas of primary importance in the international market, such as cyber and physical asset security, 3D-modelling and augmented reality, and the new frontiers of artificial intelligence: applications increasingly capable of processing large amounts of data, unearthing causal links, making predictions about behaviour, or finding the best way to streamline processes and save energy.

Sardegna Ricerche is providing them with a collective exhibition space within the Italian pavilion at Eureka Park. Each company is entitled to 2 named tickets for access to CES for the duration of the event and can participate in networking events organised by the Agency ICE.

Let's meet the start-ups that will be flying to Las Vegas:
Alert Genius protects the home and its inhabitants. The start-up has developed an app that remotely manages and authorises access to different rooms using a system of sensors, tags and alarms that can distinguish people, animals and objects.

Athlos created the prototype “Smart Waste Management”, an infrastructure that integrates IoT systems, such as a "smart bin", and AI systems to track and optimise the city’s waste disposal supply chain in both economic and energy terms.

Creecon has created a blockchain-based platform in which to buy and sell original, authenticated work as NFTs. This allows not only for creators to receive support for their work but also for fans to access a range of benefits including participation in real-world experiences.

Footure Lab offers sports performance data collection and processing services, particularly for football. Footure Compass is an AI system that processes data and statistics, while Footure Desk is a management system designed to organise sports activities.

Radoff studies solutions to reduce indoor pollution. Radoff Life monitors radon gas levels in the environment and initiates automatic remediation action as soon as they become critical. It also removes volatile organic compounds and small particles that bind to the radon itself.

Smart Geo Survey provides support for water management in agriculture and industry. Using a drone that scans the ground, data is obtained that, cross-referenced with information already known, is useful for studying strategies to optimise crops and reduce consumption.

Sprama Game Labs has developed technology that hybridises video games and board games, with patented augmented reality gameplay. Various maps, sensor surfaces and trackers can be attached to the console, which can also be interacted with from smartphones.
